The Community Empowerment Legal Clinic (CELC) has transformed VAI’s capacity to provide social services to immigrant and refugee communities. In order to provide more holistic and cohesive services through the CELC, VAI has integrated its Civic Engagement and Education Development (CEED) Program into the CELC. Through funding from the Secretary of State, the Julian Grace Foundation, the Illinois Community College Board and the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, the CEED Program prioritizes teaching English for the purposes of citizenship acquisition and acculturation. Further, the CEED oversees all CELC educational directives by coordinating Know Your Rights workshops and other relevant topics.
